There and Back Again: A Hobbit Wedding at Round Barn Farm in Red Wing, Minnesota
Some weddings are pretty. Some weddings are fun. And then every once in a while you pull up to a venue and realize you have stumbled into something else entirely. Round Barn Farm in Red Wing, Minnesota is already the kind of place that feels like it exists slightly outside of ordinary time. Add a couple who spent months pouring their hearts into Lord of the Rings inspired details, and what you get is a wedding day that felt less like a celebration and more like a world someone built from scratch.
The DIY touches were everywhere and they were exceptional. Hand lettered signage that would not have looked out of place at the Green Dragon Inn. Table settings and decor that felt organic and earthy and completely intentional. Everything was considered. You could feel the hours of love that went into it.
Their people were their people in the fullest sense. The kind of guests who were genuinely happy to be there, who laughed loudly during the toasts and cried at the vows and danced like nobody was keeping score. There was a warmth in that room that I have learned over the years to simply be grateful for when it appears.
Elise was radiant. Aiden could not stop smiling. The ceremony was tender and funny in equal measure, which is the only ratio that ever really works. And when it was over and the dancing started, the barn felt like the only place in the world anyone would want to be.
There is a line that gets quoted a lot from Tolkien, about not all those who wander being lost. Elise and Aiden are not lost. They know exactly where they are going and they are going there together, with really excellent taste in both literature and wedding decor.
