Dasha and Cameron: An Apple Orchard Family Session in Idaho

There is nothing quite like a family session at the end of summer, and this one had it all. Apples hanging heavy on the trees, dry golden hills in the distance, two very good dogs, one very curious toddler, and Dasha and Cameron looking completely at home in the middle of it all.

We met up in an apple orchard outside Emmett for their family session, and the setting did a lot of the work for us. Long rows of trees weighed down with red fruit, that distinctly Idaho landscape of green orchard giving way to sunbaked hills, and the kind of soft, overcast light that is a dream to shoot in. Everywhere we turned, there was another pocket of goodness waiting.

Their daughter was the real star of the afternoon. Little hair bows, a t-shirt with tiny horses on it, and those big blue eyes taking in every single thing. She reached up for apples still on the branch. She held tight to mom's and dad's hands as we walked down the rows. She melted into Cameron's chest for a quiet moment in between the running and the picking. Dasha kissed the top of her head more times than I could count, and I caught as many of those as I could.

And then there were the dogs. Two black labs, both completely unbothered by any of it, happy to pose, happy to flop down in the grass, happy to just be part of the family. Honestly, one of my favorite frames of the whole session is just the two of them sitting side by side in the orchard looking like they were contractually obligated to be there. Good boys.

What I loved most about this session is how easy it felt. Dasha and Cameron are the kind of parents who clearly just adore this little girl, and you can feel it in every frame. There was no performing, no forcing smiles, no stressing about the dog situation. Just the five of them in an orchard on a late summer evening, being a family.

These are the photos that will feel like gold in a few years, when their daughter is suddenly not a toddler anymore and the dogs are a little grayer around the muzzles. I'm so glad I got to catch this chapter for them.
