A Texas Family on the Oregon Coast | Newport Beach Session
There is something about the Oregon Coast that does something to people who don't live here.
Texans especially. They arrive, and the scale of it catches them off guard — the wide open sand, the grey-blue sky stretching out forever, the fog sitting low on the hills behind the bay. It's different from anything back home, and they feel it immediately. This family felt it.
A mom and her three grown kids, their partners, and the next generation already underway — a curly-haired little girl in pink rain boots who carried a purple stuffed animal through the entire session like it was the most important job on the beach, because it was. They came up from Texas for a trip to the Pacific Northwest and we got them on the sand at Newport during that last stretch of evening light when the sky can't decide between blue and gold and ends up being both.
What I love about extended family sessions is that you get all of it — the quiet moments between a mom and her children, the couples wrapped up in each other, the toddler running slightly ahead of everyone else at all times, the group shot where somehow everyone is smiling at once and you can feel the energy of years of shared history in a single frame. This session had every one of those.
The women in this family, in particular — watching a mom with her daughter and daughters-in-law laugh together on a windy beach at the edge of the continent — that's the kind of thing you don't manufacture. You just show up and let it happen.
