Andreas & Louise | An Urban Engagement Session Through the Heart of Downtown Portland

Andreas and Louise came to me through Rachel — a family friend whose wedding I photographed years prior.

They wanted their engagement session to feel like Portland — the city they've both landed in and made their own. Classic, a little urban, full of the spots that mean something when you actually live here. So we walked it together.

We started at the waterfront, the Hawthorne Bridge framing them perfectly as they strolled the public docks hand in hand, looking at each other the way people do when they're genuinely happy to be standing next to the person they're standing next to. From there we wound through to Keller Fountain Park — one of Portland's most underrated architectural gems, all those angular concrete walls and the sound of water running underneath — and the shots there are some of my favorites from the whole session. Moody and sculptural and completely theirs.

We hit the murals in the Park Blocks, where Andreas spun Louise under his arm in front of a painted "Alive" sign and I barely had time to react — which brings me to something I noticed very quickly: these two have clearly been taking dance classes. The spins were smooth. The dips were committed. When he dipped her outside the Portland Art Museum with the glass facade reflecting the whole scene behind them, it was completely effortless — no fumbling, no hesitation, just one clean, confident dip and a kiss. The kind of move you don't pull off that well without practice.

We ended the session on the steps of the Art Museum as the Park Blocks went warm around us — sitting together, laughing, completely at ease — and it felt like a perfect note to close on.

Andreas and Louise — I am so ready for July. This city suits you, and so does each other.
