Baby Bryce Makes Three: A Family Session at a Winery in Napa Valley

Far Niente Winery in Napa Valley is one of those places that makes every photograph feel like it was designed. The stone walls are covered in ivy. The massive arched wooden doors. The long tree-lined lane stretches out into golden evening light with nothing but green canopy overhead. It is stunning in every direction you point a camera, and for a family session with a brand new baby, it was absolutely perfect.

Brandon, Danika, and baby Bryce arrived looking like they'd been styled by someone who understood exactly what this location called for — soft blue, warm navy, a tiny plaid romper on the smallest and most important member of the group. Bryce, for his part, was an absolute natural. Bright-eyed, wiggly, occasionally grumpy in the way that only a newborn can be grumpy and still be completely adorable. He smiled at his dad. He stared at the stone wall with great seriousness. He let his mom hold him against her chest while she laughed at something off camera, and it was, simply, one of the best frames of the whole session.

Danika is someone I've watched grow up over more than two decades — she's my best friend's little sister, and seeing her now as a mother, completely natural and glowing and so clearly in her element, is one of those things that makes time feel both very fast and very meaningful. Brandon is the kind of dad who holds his kid like it's the most natural thing he's ever done and looks at both of them like he can't quite believe his luck. They are a beautiful little family and I am so glad I got to be there for this chapter.

PS - Danika was maid of honor at Kevin and Amy's wedding!
