Baraat, Champagne, and a Dance Floor: A Multicultural Wedding at Briarwood Estate in Mount Vernon Washington
These two come from different corners of the world, Guatemala and India, and rather than choosing one culture over the other they wove both into the fabric of the day in a way that felt natural and joyful and completely them. The result was a wedding that was colorful and layered and full of life in a way that is genuinely rare to witness.
The day kicked off with the Baraat, the traditional Indian wedding procession, and if you have never witnessed one let me tell you that it is the single best way to begin a celebration that I can imagine. The energy was immediate and electric. Dancing, music, pure unbridled joy spilling out into the grounds of Briarwood Estate before the ceremony had even begun.
The social hour that followed was one of the more charming I have encountered. Champagne, yes, but also crossword puzzles and pretzels and a live violinist whose music floated across the property and made everything feel slightly cinematic.
We wandered and laughed and made the most of golden hour together and I came away with some of my favorite couples portraits I have taken in the Pacific Northwest.
The dinner space stopped me in my tracks. Candlelight, beautiful florals, and the kind of warm intimate atmosphere that makes a large room feel like it was built for exactly the people sitting in it. I kept looking up from my camera just to take it in.
And then the dance floor opened and the photo booth pulled everyone in and by the end of the night the whole room had dissolved into one big joyful celebration. Nattaly and Dash were in the middle of all of it, exactly where they belonged.
It was bright and colorful and completely joyous from start to finish. Exactly the kind of day that reminds you why this work is the best work there is.
