Becca, Tim & Family | Light & Airy Beach Portraits in Lincoln City, Oregon

I have to tell you a story that starts in 2009.

Tim and Becca were the very first wedding I ever photographed. We all went to college together, and when they got married, I was the one behind the camera. I was also, at the end of the night, the one who caught the bouquet. Make of that what you will.

More than fifteen years later, I'm photographing their family of five on the beach in Lincoln City — Theo, Jaxon, and baby Capri, bare feet in the sand, the Oregon Coast doing what it does best: soft grey light, gentle waves, that particular quiet that only exists at the edge of the Pacific.

Lincoln City stretches across 7.5 miles of coastline, and the beach we shot on had everything — wide open sand, a beautiful piece of driftwood that fit the whole family perfectly, and that overcast coastal light that is genuinely ideal for portraits. No harsh shadows, no squinting. Just clean, even light on five very good-looking faces.

Baby Capri was the undeniable highlight of the afternoon. Becca sat down in the sand and lifted her straight up overhead and Capri just beamed — the most delighted human in Lincoln City, possibly in all of Oregon. That image is everything.

The boys were wonderful too. Theo and Jaxon held hands down the beach, all of them moving together, and Tim snuck a kiss onto Capri's cheek mid-walk while the boys laughed. The driftwood portrait — all five of them lined up on that massive log — is the one you frame. It's the one you put on the wall.

And then there were a few moments just for Becca and Tim. Standing on the sand, the ocean behind them, his hand on her face, both of them laughing the way people laugh when they've known each other a very long time and still actually like each other. I've been watching that happen since the beginning. It's still just as good.

Becca, Tim — thank you for letting me be your photographer then and now. It has been one of the great privileges of this job.

Lincoln City sits along 7.5 miles of Oregon Coast beach, about 90 minutes from Portland. One of the most beautiful and accessible stretches of the Pacific Northwest coastline — and genuinely perfect for family portraits.
