From Two to Three: Brianna, Cameron & E at Scouters Mountain | Happy Valley, Oregon
I've known Brianna and Cameron long enough to know a few things for certain. Brianna is always going to show up in something stunning. Cameron is always going to look at her like she hung the sky. And no matter how much time passes, the two of them fall right back into each other in front of a camera — easy, unhurried, completely themselves.
The last time I photographed Brianna, she was standing at the base of Wahclella Falls in a golden dress, one hand on her belly, mist rising around her. She told me she'd be in Vogue one day, said it like it was already settled. She was right. I FaceTimed her the moment I found out and it was everything.
That was before E.
Now there's E — a toddler with a big laugh and very specific ideas about which direction we should be walking. Scouters Mountain in Happy Valley was the right setting for it: a volcanic butte draped in Douglas fir and big-leaf maple, with trees that have been growing for over 200 years. The kind of place that makes a toddler feel like an explorer.
We wandered the Boomer Trail through the forest. E found sticks, dropped sticks, found new sticks. Brianna and Cameron laughed — at each other, at E, at the whole gorgeous circus of it. At the top, the trees open up and Mount Hood sits on the horizon like a painting. E stood between them, held both their hands, and looked out at the mountain like they owned it.
I have Brianna and Cameron from the engagement, the wedding, the waterfall. Now I have all three of them at the top of a mountain in Happy Valley, completely at home in the life they've built. It only keeps getting better.
Scouters Mountain Nature Park is located in Happy Valley, Oregon, just southeast of Portland. Free parking, no dogs, and an easy 1.1-mile loop trail with old-growth forest and Mount Hood views. Worth every single step.
