Golden Hour, a Golden Retriever, and Two People Completely in Love: Boise Foothills Couples Shoot

When I moved to Boise, I was still figuring out the city — new streets, new coffee shops, new everything. I put out a model call hoping to build my portfolio and find some familiar faces. Tessa answered it. I pointed my camera at her and thought: well, this is going to be easy. And then we started talking and I thought: oh, I'm going to keep this one.

That was years ago. And this session in the Boise Foothills with Tessa, her husband Scott, and their golden retriever Abbey felt like the most natural thing in the world — wandering golden dry grass under a wide Idaho sky, laughing too much to stay still, with a dog who had absolutely zero interest in sitting for a formal portrait and every interest in licking Tessa's face while she tried to look serene on a blanket.

Tessa is one of those people who is effortlessly beautiful in front of a camera — which makes sense, because in addition to being one of my favorite humans, she is a genuinely talented voice actress with some seriously impressive credits. If you don't already know her work, go visit tessanie.com and prepare to be amazed. The woman has range. On screen, behind a microphone, and apparently also while being ambushed by a golden retriever mid-photo session.

Scott is the perfect foil for her — easy smile, clearly head over heels, the kind of guy who gives a piggyback ride without being asked and grins the whole time. Watching them together is like watching two people who genuinely like each other as much as they love each other, which is honestly the whole thing, isn't it.

The Boise Foothills are one of my favorite places I discovered during my time living in Boise — open, wild, a little rugged, with that big sky that makes everything feel cinematic. It was the perfect setting for these two. And Abbey, of course, who was the real star and absolutely knew it.

Tessa, thank you for answering that model call all those years ago. I got great photos that day and a friendship I didn't see coming. This session reminded me exactly why I love what I do.
