In-Home Mother and Daughter Session in Nampa, Idaho | Kimberly and Penelope

There is a particular kind of magic that happens in the middle of a regular afternoon, in a regular living room, with no one trying very hard. That is what this session was.

I spent an afternoon in Nampa with Kimberly and her one-year-old, Penelope, for an in-home session that felt less like a photoshoot and more like I was just hanging out with them. No outfit changes, no set-up, no posing. Kimberly wanted real photos of this season with her daughter, and real is exactly what we got.

Penelope did what one-year-olds do. She giggled. She wiggled. She wanted her stuffed bunny, then did not want her stuffed bunny, then wanted it again. Kimberly scooped her up for airplane rides on her legs, and the two of them ended up in a puddle of laughter on the rug more times than I could count. I stayed low, stayed quiet, and let them be.

The light came in soft and warm through the windows all afternoon, which is honestly one of my favorite things about in-home sessions. You get this kind of light that cannot be recreated anywhere else. It just pours in and settles on everything. Combined with Kimberly's cozy, lived-in space (that fireplace, the woven pillows, the play mat that has clearly seen things), it made for the kind of backdrop that actually feels like their life, because it is.

These are the photos I hope Kimberly holds onto for a long time. Not because they are perfectly styled or dramatically lit, but because they are true. Penelope will not be this small for much longer. Her little laugh, the way she tucks into her mom, the way she kicks her feet when she is excited. That is what this session was about. Catching all of it before it changes.

If you are a mom on the fence about booking a session like this, this is your sign. You do not need to clean your house or plan outfits or wait until your kid is in a better phase. The phase you are in right now is the one worth photographing.
