Finn and Jay coined their session the enGAYgement session and honestly it's the best thing I've heard all year. When they first booked me they were upfront about something that stuck with me — that being a joyful, visible, diverse representation in a photographer's portfolio mattered to them. It matters to me too. More than I can say. Every body, every background, every way of loving deserves to be documented beautifully and without apology, and getting to work with couples who show up with that same energy is exactly why I do this.

We met at Cathedral Park under the St. Johns Bridge — one of my favorite spots in all of Portland — for a relaxed portrait session before their wedding day. If you've never been, Cathedral Park sits right at the base of the St. Johns Bridge and those massive Gothic arches create the most incredible natural framing. It's dramatic without trying to be, which is honestly my favorite kind of beautiful. The light was doing exactly what Portland light does when it's feeling generous, and Finn and Jay were completely at ease with each other from the moment we started shooting. Easy conversation, a lot of laughter, and the kind of effortless chemistry that makes a photographer's job feel less like work and more like just hanging out with good people.

Their wedding day cannot come fast enough. These two are going to be so good.
