The McNeil Family | Three Boys & Laurelhurst Park

Some families you grow with.

I've been photographing the McNeils since their first son came into the world, which means I've had a front row seat to the particular, wonderful chaos of watching a family of three become a family of five. Three boys. Three completely different personalities. Three kids who, the moment you tell them to just be themselves, immediately start wrestling, jumping, or doing something that makes their mom laugh, and their dad shake his head in the best possible way.

That's exactly what happened at Laurelhurst Park.

Laurelhurst is one of those Portland gems that earns its reputation every fall. Towering trees, open lawns blanketed in rust and amber, winding paths that beg to be walked — it's a natural studio that does half the work for you. On an overcast afternoon, the muted light wraps everything in this soft, even glow that's almost impossible to replicate any other way. The boys didn't care about any of that, of course. They were too busy seeing who could jump the highest.

To the McNeils — it has been such a gift watching your family grow. Can't wait to see what next year looks like.
