Some wedding days build slowly, layer by layer, each location adding something new — and by the time the night is over you look back and realize the whole day was a perfect arc from start to finish. Layla and Eric's wedding was exactly that.
The morning started at the Sentinel Hotel in downtown Portland — a historic landmark that carries its age beautifully, all ornate architecture and the kind of bones that make a photographer want to slow down and look around. Light streams through the windows in that building in a way that feels deliberate, like the place knows what it's doing. Getting ready there felt cinematic before anything else had even begun.
Layla is from Micronesia, and she wove her culture into the day with intention and pride. The Chuukese wedding hula dance was one of the most moving and joyful moments of the entire celebration — a room full of people leaning in, watching something meaningful and alive and rooted in a heritage that deserved to be honored. It was a gift to witness. Those are the moments that remind me why cultural representation in a wedding gallery matters so deeply. Every love story should look like the people living it.
The ceremony was held at Easton Broad — Portland's award-winning, woman-owned event space tucked between the Mississippi, Williams, and Lloyd districts. Airy and industrial-modern, filled with over a hundred plants and beautiful natural light, it's the kind of space that feels both curated and completely welcoming. It held the ceremony beautifully and set the tone for everything that followed.
As the sun started dropping we slipped out into the Portland streets for golden hour portraits — the three of us wandering the neighborhood, finding light, the city doing what Portland does at that hour when everything goes warm and unhurried. Layla and Eric were easy and relaxed and completely happy out there, which always produces the best frames.
And then the night descended and Easton Broad came fully alive. The dance floor filled up and stayed that way — loud and joyful and completely unrestrained — the perfect close to a day that had held so much beauty and meaning from the very first hour.
