A Sunny Day in March | An Intimate Wedding at Opal 28 | Portland, Oregon

Portland in March has a reputation, and it's well earned. Gray skies, steady rain, the kind of damp that settles into your bones and stays there. It's part of why we live here and love it, but it does mean that a sunny wedding day in early spring feels like a genuine gift — the city deciding, just for a day, to show you its best self.

Bill and Eve got that day.

They gathered a small, close group of people they love at Opal 28 — a warm, intimate venue on NE 28th Avenue that does exactly what a great event space should do: it gets out of the way and lets the people fill it. Versatile and personal, the kind of place that feels like it was set up specifically for you, which is exactly right for a wedding this intentional.

Eve wore an elegant pale blue dress that felt completely right for a sunny March afternoon in Portland — soft and cool and quietly beautiful, the kind of choice that photographs effortlessly in natural light. Which, on this particular day, there was plenty of.

After the ceremony, we slipped out into the Portland neighborhoods for couples portraits — wandering streets in the sun, finding light, letting the city be itself around them. There is a particular quality to Portland on a clear day that I never take for granted, and Bill and Eve were easy and relaxed and completely happy in it.

Back at Opal 28, cocktail hour unfolded on the private patio in the sunshine — one of those unexpected March moments that feels almost stolen, too good to be real — before everyone moved indoors for dinner and drinks as the evening settled in.

And then there were the chopstick holders.

Bill and Eve gifted their guests custom ceramic chopstick holders in the shape of little dumplings — each one with a tiny face painted on, every single one unique. I photographed everyone I could find. They were completely adorable and completely thoughtful, and the kind of detail that tells you exactly who these two are — people who put real care into the things they give, who think about the people around them, who show up with intention. The best wedding details always say something true about the couple. These said everything.

Bill and Eve — what a perfect sunny day. Thank you for having me there for it.
