A Mountain Top Wedding at Catamount Mountain Resort | The Berkshires, New York

I have photographed a lot of wedding entrances. I have never photographed one quite like this.

Every single guest at Jeff and Laura's wedding — bridal party, family, friends, everyone — rode a ski lift to the top of the mountain to get to the ceremony. Let that sink in for a second. Not a shuttle. Not a trolley. A ski lift, one by one, ascending through the trees at Catamount Mountain Resort in the Berkshires of upstate New York, arriving at the summit for a wedding ceremony with views that went on forever in every direction.

As a photographer I was somewhere between completely focused and barely containing my excitement, because this was already one of the best things I had ever seen at a wedding and we hadn't even gotten to the vows yet.

The ceremony at the top of the mountain was everything you'd hope for. That elevation, that open sky, that sense of being above the ordinary world for a few minutes — it adds a weight to the moment that you simply cannot manufacture at ground level. Jeff and Laura said their vows up there with the Berkshire landscape sprawling out behind them, and it felt exactly as significant as it was.

And then they ziplined down.

I want to be very clear that this was not a small gesture or a quirky little detail. Jeff and Laura, in true form, launched themselves off the mountain on a zipline directly to their reception below. The CataMonster Zip Tour at Catamount is no joke — this is a real, full-speed zipline — and they rode it in wedding attire with the absolute confidence of two people who knew exactly what kind of wedding they were having. I was already at the bottom waiting for them, camera up, and the moment they came flying in was one of the most genuinely joyful things I have ever had the privilege of photographing.

The reception was exactly what you'd expect from two people who ziplined to it. The dance floor was completely, gloriously unhinged from start to finish. Air guitars were deployed — not once, not as a bit, but as a full and sustained commitment to the energy of the evening. Nobody was phoning it in. Nobody was standing at the edges. The whole room was in it together, the way the best dance floors always are.

Jeff and Laura — you set the bar. Ski lift to the summit, vows on top of the world, zipline to the party. I don't know how anyone follows that, but I would very much like to find out.

Real Review:

I picked Leah to photograph my wedding because I loved her journalistic style. My photos did not disappoint!!! She was so sweet and made me feel comfortable the whole time (and the groomsmen were wild and she rolled with it!) she was down for everything I suggested and delivered the photos SO quickly! 10/10 recommend! You will not regret it!
