A Surprise Proposal at Crystal Springs Rhododendron Garden, Portland

Aidan came to Crystal Springs Rhododendron Garden thinking she was there for family photos. She'd traveled in from out of state, her whole family gathered together, a photographer waiting — nothing out of the ordinary. What she didn't know was that Richard had quietly made plans of his own.

He flew in without telling her. Coordinated with the family. Showed up at the garden while she had no idea he was anywhere near Portland. And then, in front of everyone who loves her most, he got down on one knee.

She said yes.

There is something about a moment like that — the way shock and joy arrive at the same time, the way the people around you start cheering before you've even fully processed what's happening — that is genuinely impossible to fake and genuinely wonderful to photograph. Aidan's face when she realized what was unfolding said everything.

After the ring was on and the hugging had settled down, the family celebrated together for a bit before Aidan and Richard slipped away to wander the grounds. Crystal Springs is one of those places that always delivers — the ponds, the bridges, the hydrangeas in bloom, the way the whole garden feels tucked away from the rest of the city. They spun on the bridge, ran through the paths, and looked at each other the way people do when something big and good has just happened, and they're still getting used to it.

Aidan and Richard, congratulations. The family kept the secret beautifully, the garden put on a show, and you two are going to be wonderful together.
