From Kubota Garden to the Metropolist | Chris & Kayla | Seattle Wedding Photographer
Every once in a while a wedding gives you a moment you have never seen before and will never forget.
For Chris and Kayla, that moment came during their vows.
Most couples choose a unity candle or a sand ceremony — something symbolic, something quiet. Chris and Kayla chose a fondue pot and a tray of rice krispy treats on sticks, and they stood at the altar of the Metropolist in Seattle and melted chocolate together while their guests watched. And then — and this is the part — every single person in that room received one. A warm chocolate-dipped rice krispy treat, made by the bride and groom, handed out during the ceremony itself. A gift and a surprise all at once.
I have photographed a lot of weddings. I have never seen that.
The day started at Kubota Garden in Seattle, which if you haven't been is one of the most quietly extraordinary places in the city. A Japanese-style garden tucked into the Rainier Beach neighborhood, lush and green and full of winding paths and the kind of dappled light that makes portrait work feel effortless. Kayla's cascading white orchid bouquet against the deep greens of the garden was a combination I could have shot all day. Clean, elegant, completely stunning. We moved through the paths and used everything the garden offered.
Then we moved downtown to the Metropolist for the ceremony. The Metropolist is a Seattle venue that earns its name — a converted industrial space with exposed beams, wood plank ceilings, string lights, and the kind of bones that make every frame interesting. The ceremony setup with the hanging floral chandelier and floor-length white curtains diffusing the light behind the couple was one of the most beautiful indoor ceremony shots I have taken in Seattle.
Chris and Kayla — this day was so entirely you. Thank you for letting me be there for all of it.
