Golden Hour and the Foxes | Grant's Senior Session | Silverton, Oregon

Senior year has a particular weight to it. It is the last season of a version of yourself that took eighteen years to build, and the photos that come from it should feel like that, like a real record of who someone actually is, not just a posed smile against a backdrop.

Grant is a football player. That part came through immediately.

We started at the Foxes' field at golden hour, and Grant in that jersey with the ball tucked under his arm looked exactly like what he is: an athlete at the top of his game, comfortable in his own skin, ready for whatever comes next. The light was doing everything right, turning the turf warm and casting long shadows across the yard lines. We got the classic standing shot, the letterman jacket with the football, and one of my favorites, Grant sitting on the field with his helmet and shoulder pads beside him, looking off into the distance like someone with a lot of good memories and no regrets.

Then we moved out into the countryside around Silverton, and that is where things got interesting.

The rural locations added something the field couldn't. An old rusted tractor half-swallowed by the property, a weathered outbuilding, late afternoon sun filtering through tall pines at the edge of a field. Grant leaned against a fence rail with that easy, offhand smile. Grant up on the tractor, looking thoughtful and a little older than he probably realizes he is. The railroad tracks with fall foliage blazing gold behind him brought the whole session together; that image of him in the letterman jacket on the tracks is one I keep coming back to.

What I love about sessions like this one is that we are not manufacturing a version of who the senior wants to be. We are just showing up where they already are. Grant is clearly rooted in this part of Oregon, and these photos carry that sense of place in a way that will mean something for a long time.

Congratulations, Grant. The Foxes are lucky to have had you.
