Vow Exchange in Seattle | Seattle Chinese Garden, Staple & Fancy, and Karaoke
Some couples plan a wedding. And then some couples plan two.
Rachel and Andrew had a beautiful, intimate ceremony coming up at Salish Lodge with their families — but first, they wanted to share something with their closest friends. A Seattle weekend getaway. A secret. A vow exchange that almost nobody saw coming.
Rachel showed up in a stunning white halter bridal jumpsuit — sleek, modern, completely confident, and honestly one of the most refreshing bridal looks I've ever photographed. Red lips, glasses, a flowing veil, and the biggest smile. Andrew was sharp in a grey suit with a red pocket square.
The vows were exchanged under the traditional Chinese pavilion at the Seattle Chinese Garden — a breathtaking, serene space that feels like a Chinese landscape painting come to life. Stone pathways, lush bamboo groves, water features, classical architecture — quiet and intentional and unlike anywhere else in Seattle. The pavilion framed them perfectly, a small circle of their closest friends seated on either side, the garden blooming green all around them.
After the ceremony, we wandered the garden for portraits. The bamboo grove in particular was extraordinary — tall stalks rising on either side, creating a natural canopy that felt made for exactly this. The whole garden gave us frame after frame without even trying.
And then they went to dinner.
Staple & Fancy in Ballard is one of those restaurants that earns its reputation every single night. Exposed brick walls, long wooden tables, the warmth of a room that knows what it's doing. A tasting menu built around whatever is best and freshest, course after course of the kind of food that makes you slow down and pay attention. Rachel stood at the head of the table in her jumpsuit and veil, still fully bridal, toasting with her people — glasses raised across the whole table, everyone leaning in, everyone exactly where they were supposed to be.
And then — because of course — they closed the night at Rock Box, Seattle's beloved private karaoke spot.
I need to let the images speak here. Andrew, microphone in hand, glasses slightly askew, was singing with everything he had. Rachel, arm raised, red lips, veil still on, absolutely killing it. Their friends crowded around them in that dark little room, all of them completely uninhibited and completely joyful. The contrast between the serene stillness of the Chinese garden and the glorious chaos of late-night karaoke is one of my favorite things I've ever documented.
